Scientific Ballooning at Engineers Week Expo 2007
The scientific ballooning team at USM is preparing for a maiden flight of a balloon and payload to an altitude of 5000 feet at the end of April. Later flights will reach altitudes of 100,000 feet, above 99% of the atmosphere.
The Engineering Expo in Feruary was an opportunity to display the payload and recovery parachute and to demonstrate communications from the payload capsule. With its high ceiling and exposed roof supports, the USM field house provided an ideal space to show off the system.

Team members were on hand to talk about scientific ballooning with many of the 1500 Expo attendees.
